For our recent move from South Florida to Texas, I actually gave my husband the OK to buy a house that I had never set foot in – I still can’t believe I did this! Of course I had seen pictures and “walked it” via FaceTime but that was still a really big step. And, thankfully, it actually turned out really well and I love our new Texas home…..or I should say, I love the potential of it. I have a mile long list of amazing projects and updates I want to do to make it our “dream home” and the first project that started this whole blog idea was our kitchen remodel.
Our new kitchen was nice – white cabinets, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, but it had one thing we have had in all four of our previous homes – a two-tier countertop. Ughhhhh….I cannot stand that two-tier countertop. It’s such a tease – so close to being a nice, desirable peninsula or island, but then up pops that too narrow, too high, good for nothing second tier and it’s a complete waste of space. The only thing we have ever put up on that 2nd tier is a fruit bowl and random clutter.
So I got to work and met with 3 local contractors to find out what our options would be to get rid of that two-tier recurring nightmare we have lived with for far too long. It turns out it’s a pretty easy (and popular) kitchen redesign project, although you do have to replace all your countertops which gets a little pricey. We made the final decision to go for it and replace our countertops (plus add more countertops and storage – you can never have too much of either in my opinion), the sink and faucet, and the backsplash to really give the kitchen a new look.
Now that it has been completed, we are obsessed with our new kitchen space and use it all the time! Sure, it still gets some random clutter on it, but with 3 young kids we will give it a pass for now. And it has inspired me to continue on my journey of making this house our “dream home”…..one project at a time (unless we win the lottery!)
